In German, either the article or the adjective must indicate the gender of the noun. For example, "der Mann" clearly shows that "Mann" is masculine. However, "ein Mann" does not, because the article "ein" is used for both masculine and neuter nouns. When the article does not show the gender, the adjective or its ending must do so. Learn more!
